Katuri Narayanaswamy passed away

 

 

Senior Telugu Desam party leader Katuri Narayana Swamy passed away on August 29 at Pranathi hospital in Ongole. Funeral will be held on August 30 at his native village, Katurivaripalem near Podili. Telugu Desam lost another honest politician in just 15 days after the loss of Noothanakalva Ramakrishna Reddy on August 14.

 

 

Katuri Narayana Swamy was born in Bachchalakurapadu in Konakanamitla Mandal on February 21, 1922. He completed matriculation in Ongole (Municipal high school).

 

 

Podili people may never forget Katuri Narayana Swamy and his services. Katuri was the Irrigation minister in the NT Ramarao cabinet.

 

 

Podili Gram Panchayat is Katuri family bastion. For the last 60 years, his candidates are winning in the Podili Panchayat polls. He was the first district president of Telugu Desam party in Prakasam district.

 

 

Katuri Narayana Swamy, Nalamothu Chenchurama Naidu, Patibandla Gopalasawmy and Gundapaneni Pattabhi Ramaswamy played vital role in politics from Kamma community side in the Prakasam district by taking on strong Reddy leaders.

 

 

1983-89 was the golden period in the Katuri political life. He got “giant killer” image by defeating Kasu Brahmananda Reddy in Narasaraopet. He was the undisputed number one leader in the Prakasam district Telugu Desam politics in those days.

 

 

Andhra Pradesh lost another honest politician who is the representative of “old politics.”

 

 

Katuri Narayana Swamy election history:

 

 

1955: He was contested from Podili Assembly (Krishikar Lokparty) and lost to Congress candidate.

 

 

1959: He was elected as Podili block president as a Congress party candidate.

 

 

1961: He lost Podili Samiti polls by one vote.

 

 

1962: Elected to Assembly from Podili constituency on Congress party ticket.

 

 

1967: Elected to Assembly from Podili constituency on Congress party ticket.

 

 

1972: Elected to Assembly from Podili constituency as an Independent candidate.

 

 

1978: Lost to Gnana Prakasam in the Podili Assembly polls.

 

 

1981: Lost to Ramanjaneya Reddy in the Podili Samiti elections.

 

 

1983: Katuri was elected from Darsi Assembly constituency on Telugu Desam party ticket.

 

 

1984: Katuri created sensation by defeating Kasu Brahmananda Reddy from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha segment.

 

 

1989: Katuri lost to Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy in the Ongole Parliament elections.

 

 

1994: Katuri lost in the Darsi Assembly polls still played crucial role in Podili town politics.
