Analysis: Political scene in Guntur District

Guntur district is basically a kamma community dominated area. One can divide Guntur district into three areas. PRP will play vital role in changing the fortunes of many Congress candidates in the district. Kapu community which was traditionally supported Congress Party after the murder of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, is now backing Praja Rajyam Party (PRP).

1. Kamma dominated constituencies:

A. Tenali:

B. Ponnur:

C. Chilakaluripet:

D. Vinukonda:

E. Tadikonda (SC):

F. Prathipadu (SC):

2. Kamma and Reddy dominated constituencies (Palnadu Area):

A. Narasaraopet:

B. Macherla:

C. Gurajala:

D. Sattenapalle:

3. Kamma and Kapu dominated constituencies:

A. Duggirala

B. Vemuru (SC):

C. Pedakurapadu:

D. Guntur -East

E. Guntur -West

F. Mangalagiri:

Loksabha segments:

1. Guntur

2. Narasaraopet

3. Bapatla (SC).

Recently when I had visited my home town, I saw a lot of changes in the rural youth. Every one is literally divided by caste. Before entry of PRP, Congress was backed by Kapu community in Guntur district. Now they are showing more inclination towards PRP. If PRP able to get these votes, no one can stop TDP win at least 10 constituencies in Guntur district.

Kanna Laxmannarayan (State Transport minister) who won from Pedakurapadu constituency for four times is now leaving this constituency and will contest from Guntur-1. This is a clear signal of TDP regaining strength in the constituency.

According to recent reports, YRS are planning to reject tickets to 4 strong congress MLAs in Guntur district. This is another signal of anti-incumbency.

Kamma, Kapu and Reddy communities are inclined towards TDP, PRP and Congress respectively. Communist parties also play vital role.

Till 2004, Guntur had 19 Assembly constituencies and 4 Loksabha seats. In delimitation process, Kuchinapudi assembly constituency and Tenali Loksabha segment were disappeared.

Kuchinapudi: It contains more kamma population (55,000) with compared to any other Constituency in Guntur district. This segment disappeared in delimitation. Good thing for TDP is that it is merging with ‘Kamma and Kapu dominated’ areas.

Now TDP support is dramatically increased in

1. Duggirala

2. Vemuru

3. Repalle

So, it is very difficult for PRP to win in these seats without kamma community support.

Tenali MP Seat: Vallabaneni Balashouri is current MP from Congress party. He belongs to Kapu community. Tenali MP Segment has some areas from Krishna district (Nidumolu and Avanigadda) which have more Kapu population. This is the reason why parties are allotting Tenali MP Seat to Kapu community and Tenali MLA seat to kamma community. Current MLA is Manohar Nadendla.

It is decided that Vallabaneni Balashouri is going to contest from Narasaraopet MP Seat where heavy kamma community is located. Second place is Reddy population. He is not locale resident and no idea of Palnadu politics. So his defeat is 100% sure.
